Do you offer individual or small group instruction?

I offer both individual and small group (2-3 students) instruction dependent on the focus of the tutoring sessions and client needs.

How will I be informed of my child's progress?

Updates on your child's pregress may be delivered in a variety of ways. These may include an informal check-in at the end of a session, e-mailed session summaries, or scheduled progress meetings.

What credentials, certificates and/or degrees do you hold?

I have a BS in Human Development and Family Studies from Cornell University and a Masters in Teaching from the University of Virginia focused on Special Education. Additionally, I hold an Educator's Certificate from The Commonwealth of Massachusetts' Department of Education.

Do you have training and/or experience in working with learning disabilities or attention problems?

Yes. I have a Masters in Special Education with a focus on Learning Disabilities and Emotional Disabilities. Additionally, I carry a Massachusetts Educator's Certificate for Special Needs (PreK-9) (5-12) and Intensive Special Needs (All). I have worked with many students who have learning disabilities or attention problems as an inclusion teacher, substantially separate teacher, regular education teacher and tutor.

How do you remain current in the field?

I attend regular conferences and professional development opportunities.

What is your previous teaching experience?

I have worked as both a regular educator and special educator at a variety of grade levels and across a range of subjects. Please check out my resume for more detail.

How do you deal with motivation, behavior, and/or attention problems?

The specific strategies that I use are dependent on the individual and their academic and social needs. However, I find that it is essential to build a strong rapport with my clients based on mutual respect, high expectations and a belief that everyone is capable of learning.

How long is a tutoring session?

Tutoring sessions are generally an hour in length. Session length can vary dependent on content or client needs.

How frequently do you recommend meeting?

I will be able to make a recommendation as to the frequency of sessions after the initial consultation. Client needs, time constraints and tutoring focus all need to be taken into consideration. Most clients choose to meet 1 to 2 times per week.

Where do you tutor?

I tutor out of my home in Sherborn, MA.

What about miscellaneous fees for supplies and materials?

After the initial consultation you may be given a list of materials to ensure that the tutoring sessions are properly supplied to run smoothly.  If additional materials or supplies become necessary I will provide you with a list of needed items. You can either purchase these yourself, or I would be happy to pick them up for you. I will never bill you for supplies or material without first discussing it with you.
